How I am "Momming Like a Millennial"
Updated: Mar 1
As a millennial mom, there is much more pressure to be a “great” mom than it was for our parents. This is because of social media's expansive information and influence on us today. There are so many other mothers telling us to do one thing and then on the next swipe you’re getting contradicting information.

The amount of information coming from strangers and the pressure to post the perfect side of parenting is overwhelming. Parenting is a beautiful mess; that sometimes is just plain awful! You can hate being a mom in a specific moment while still loving your child(ren), but I digress.
To know where I am going, you have to know where I came from. My parents raised me in the 90s (millennial, duh) and the idea of strict parenting or aversive disciplinary strategies was more common. Aversive disciplinary strategies include spanking, long timeouts, yelling, strong rules; and a “my way or the highway” type of raising children.
I want to do things differently. I want to TRY gentle parenting. From what I’ve gathered, gentle parenting is honoring feelings while being vulnerable yourself, explaining the why to rules and suggestions, apologizing when wrong, and respecting your little one’s no’s when they don’t like or want something.

This is where momming like a millennial comes in, remember the social media pressures to be a great mom? Well, the information out there isn’t all bad; how do you think I came across “gentle parenting”? As a millennial mom, I want to use those social influences to my advantage and share them with you. I want to try fun sensory games and be influenced into getting my little one the Fisher Price piano mat, and I want to laugh at the relatable TikToks or Reels.
I feel like we take parenting too seriously most times because this sh*t is hard. I want to openly talk about my feelings about being a mom or parent. I want to share the uncomfortable parts of your body changing and how I have been coping; along with resources to help you cope as well! I want to share my favorite items that help me be a better mom. So here we will talk about things that may make you uncomfortable, things that are trending, and we won’t be afraid to call our kid’s a pain in the butt cause at the end of the day we are all just trying our best.
